Remembering Bobbie Miller-1930-2022

The members and friends of Fleetwood Fish and Game have lost a dear and longtime friend and a loyal volunteer. America has lost its oldest active trapshooting scorekeeper. Bobbie Miller passed away on Saturday December 10, at the age of 92.
Over many decades, Bobbie logged countless hours as a volunteer at Fleetwood, assisting wherever and whenever he was needed. He was best known for his skills as a trapshooting scorekeeper. Bobbie was a regular at all Fleetwood Fish & Game/Berks County League trapshoots. He was greatly respected for not only his skills as a scorer but will also be long remembered for who he was as a person, for his knowledge and for his kind and mild disposition. We will miss him.
We offer a sincere thank you to Bobbie’s three daughters, Lois, Sandra, Donna and the rest of his family (of whom he was most proud), for sharing him with us.

New Pistol Shelter

Our club has been a part of the Fleetwood area and surrounding community for more than 88 years. During that time, countless numbers of families and individuals learned the safe and correct use of firearms. In the past few years men and women are purchasing handguns at record levels. As we expand our training program, there is an obvious need for an expanded shelter at the pistol range. This not only provides a more comfortable environment for shooters, but just as importantly, increases safety.

Club volunteers are completing all the construction to save expenses, but the increased cost of construction materials nearly doubled our initial projection. We are reaching out to the community with a goal to secure $8,000.00 in donations. Donations of any amount are appreciated.  Individuals and Businesses donating $150.00 or more will have their name prominently displayed on a plaque attached to the new shelter unless they wish to remain anonymous.

New Dues Rates for 2023

On 9-28-22 the Fleetwood Fish and Game Association held its monthly organizational meeting. The officers, board and members reviewed our costs. Ongoing price and tax increases have impacted all of us and have affected Fleetwood Fish and Game as well. While considerable volunteer effort has allowed us to contain and in some cases reduce expenses our total costs have outpaced current incoming dues. To continue to provide you with a quality experience at FF&G a dues and new membership increase was voted upon by the officers and members during the September meeting. After careful consideration, a dues increase, which has not occurred for a number of years was approved by a unanimous vote. New memberships will increase by $10. Renewals will increase by $5.

Below is new information and important dates. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY:

BEFORE December 31, 2022 the following rates are in effect:

For New Members:

2023 New Membership: $50
Includes $10 application fee and $40 dues

For Renewing Members:

2022 Annual Dues: $40

2023 Annual Dues $35 (If paid before December 31, 2022)

 

STARTING January 1, 2023 the following rates come into effect:

2023 – New Membership: $60
(Includes $15 application fee and $45 dues)

2023 – Annual Dues: $45 / $40 (If paid between October 1 and December 31 the previous year)

Please Note: If you do not renew your membership each year you are required to restart your membership at the new member fee.

RIP Bob Zajdowicz

Fleetwood Fish and Game Association mourns the loss of Bob Zajdowicz, a fellow member, trapshooter, volunteer, mentor and friend.

Bob is best known for his smile, his incredible attitude and his confident yet gentle personality. To know Bob was to love Bob. An accomplished trapshooter, Bob spent countless hours assisting Fleetwood Fish and Game and other area clubs with his vast knowledge of trapshooting and the art of hosting league shoots smoothly. He last shot in the Berks County Amateur Trapshooting league on July 10, 2022. Bob, well known to hundreds of shooters in Berks County and beyond,  volunteered for many years as an expert league shoot scorer and shoot coordinator at Fleetwood and other area clubs and we will be forever grateful for his help and his friendship. Fleetwood Fish & Game Association would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Bob’s wife Leslyn, his family and to his extended family in the trapshooting community.

Spring Workday #1 was Saturday April 30 – Thank you to those that helped!

Improvements don’t just happen. They require volunteers or more money than the club has available. An enormous amount was accomplished by volunteers on Saturday including the start of the pistol range shelter construction, range maintenance, mower maintenance, grass cutting, security, clubhouse housekeeping etc etc etc. If you enjoy the club and it’s facilities please consider volunteering whatever time you can give or making a donation. To save costs, everything that can be done at the club by volunteers is done by volunteers but more volunteers are needed. Our membership dues are low as compared to many and don’t cover all of the significant costs of maintaining and /or improving the club. Consider supporting the club with your time, donations or participating in the activities put on by the club. Every contribution of time or money helps.

Do you have the time and willingness to help us at any time that works for you? We are flexible and can work with the time you have available. Skilled and non-skilled labor is needed, and we are always looking for equipment, supplies, and of course, donations, to help us with some of the bigger projects.

If you are an operator and or can DONATE (we’ll pay for fuel) a short term loan of earth moving equipment, bucket truck etc and your time please contact us. Rentals and delivery are very expensive. Have the equipment but don’t have the time to run it?  We have an experienced operator available. Call the clubhouse @ 610-944- 3116.

Bullseye (Precision Pistol) 25 Starts Saturday April 9!

Members and non-members welcome! 25-yard Bullseye matches are also known as precision pistol matches. There are two (2) stages of a match, both fired at 25 yards at a black bullseye target. Each consists of 30 rounds fired in 5-round strings. The first stage is shot with a .22 caliber handgun – semi-autos are preferred but some shoot a revolver. The second course of fire is identical but is shot with any center-fire handgun. It’s only $5 and is run the second Saturday of every month by experienced range officers who will guide you every step of the way. You are welcome to watch one before you jump in. This is a fun event! Try it and like the rest of us,  you’ll be hooked!

Fleetwood Fish and Game Association exists, functions and thrives because of all of us. “Us” is you, me, every member. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our club. While the number of volunteers below seems impressive the amount of work required to keep the club running well is massive. Grass cutting alone – not including trimming – requires a massive amount of time, and membership requires a similar effort year-round.

Help doesn’t necessarily require manual labor. Mental skills are also appreciated. Some that have contributed their time since our last newsletter are listed below. While we do our best to acknowledge every act of volunteerism, because it is so critical to the function of the club, we may have missed someone or something. If this happens please let us know. Every good deed, large or small, is important. Many hands make the heavy work lighter.

Fun at the 15 Pistol Shoot

NEW at Fleetwood Fish and Game. A fun handgun shoot that runs the fourth Saturday of every month from April thru November and is shot with a rimfire or centerfire handgun at a practical distance of 15 yards. All are welcome. This event is open to members and non-members alike. The event uses a LARGE 21″ x 24″ target with a 5.5″ bullseye. Pistols and revolvers of any caliber are welcome. This is a no-stress fun event!  Come join us. Register in the events section of our website.

RIP Carl Metz

Dear Members and friends of Fleetwood Fish and Game,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of President Emeritus Carl Metz on February 8, 2022.

Carl touched each and every one of us during his time as a member, officer, mentor and advisor at Fleetwood Fish and Game. In addition to the kindness and friendship he shared with all, Carl served as a selfless volunteer who donated many thousands of hours to the care of the club and its members.

Carl was a loving husband and father. We extend our sincere gratitude to his family for their support in sharing Carl with us.

Let us celebrate Carl’s life, his friendship, his smile, his service and the very special person he was.

He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
